Nice Readings.. :)

There was a young flower in the desert where all was dry and sad looking...It was growing by itself...enjoying every day...and saying to the sun "When shall I be grown up"? And the sun would say "Be patient"---Each time I touch you, you grow a little"...And she was so pleased. Because she would have a chance to bring beauty to this corner of sand...And this is all she wanted to do---bring a little bit of beauty to this world.
One day the hunter came by---and stepped on her.---She was going to die---and she felt so sad. Not because she was dying ---but because she would not have a chance to bring a little bit of beauty to this corner of the desert.
The great spirit saw her, and was listening.---Indeed, he said ...She should be living...And he reached down and touched her---and gave her life.
And she grew up to be a beautiful flower...and this corner of the desert became so beautiful because of her.

Some nice lines recently read somewhere..
People say they love Rain; but when it rains, they use umbrella..
People say they love Sun; but when it shines, they look for shade..
People say they love wind; but when its windy, they close their windows..
Thats why I get scared when people say They Love Me!

As the kids' in the nearby houses were busy preparing for their exams in the last 2 weeks, one of the neighborhood aunties was a little too enthusiastic (and too) about her 6 years old sons' studies! 4 days before the exams, she would get him to the terrace every evening and make him study for about 2 hours. Their terrace being at just the same height as that of my room, I can easily see and hear whats happening there. One of the evenings, I was doing some work on the computer and suddenly heard the aunty shouting at the poor kid probably for not being attentive to what she was teaching. He was busy watching the birds flying back home while aunty was having trouble teaching some history (or social sciences probably) to him. My ears turned towards the terrace! It was a History class the chapter described something related to 'aadivaasi's. Aunty was having tough time explaining things (or should I say the kid was having tough time understanding what his mother was trying to explain ;) )
The kid asked some doubt related to languages spoken by different people
Aunty: Every community has its own language. Like Marathi people speak Marathi (wow!), Marwadi people speak Marwadi. (This much was understood) ... Like that, wadari people have wadari language.
The last stmt appeared difficult for the small kid. After a pause of about 30 seconds of deep thinking in silence, the kid asked 'mummy what is 'wadari'?
And the aunty bursted out 'You idiot! Dont act too smart! Just do as is being told to you! Just learn it! Don't eat my head'

Poor kid! The aunty in the first place is using words that he is hearing first time in his life and he is not even allowed to ask questions! Little did he know asking questions to gain knowledge was such a big mistake!
And we say our education system is not taking us nowhere! :)

Another story recently read in a book... :)
There was a beggar who sat outside a mandir everyday but would hardly get any money. One night when it was time for him to go, he picked up the chaddar and found he had got only one 1o paisa coin on it inspite of sitting there the whole day!!
He was feeling very low and thinking what he would answer his wife after returning home. On his way he saw a 'sharaab-khana'. Though he had lost all his hopes, he thought of sitting outside it and trying his luck. As soon as he sat there spreading his chaddar, a drunkard came out and stopped by him. He took out two 10 rupees notes and giving them to the beggar said, 'maaf karna bhai.. aaj itna hi hain.. kal aur doonga'.
Seeing this the beggar looked upto sky and said to God, 'Kya bhagwaan! Aap rehte kahi ho aur pata kahi aur ka dete ho!'

What do i want to be reborn as??

At one of the recent screening rounds for checking communication skills, we were given some topics and were to come in front of the class and speak something... There were many topics like 'Valentines' Day should
be celebrated or not', 'Pakistani players should be allowed to play in IPL or not' and many more.. Something that ntrigued me was "What do you want to be reborn as: Boy or Girl" ! A few
minutes were given to think and we were to come in front and speak!!
After giving it a little thought, I felt I want to be reborn as a boy.... the first and foremost reason being wanting to try out something different... since i have experienced being a girl this
time, i want to see how it feels being a boy. The immediate next thought was, how many lifetimes i might have been a boy.. i dont remember it now... so even if i come as a boy next
time, i wont know why i have been what i have been! :D but as a thumb rule, try a new icecream everytime you visit Natural's, this too is similar i guess! :D And i had to give some points about why i want to be what i want to be! So, here is my list: (completely personal opinion which can change any moment :D and no offense to anyone
whatsoever)
1. Being born in a middle class Indian socierty, i had lot of restrictions during my childhood days (some of them still exist), whereas the brothers in the house were (and still are to a large
extent) allowed to do whatever they wanted to.. well.. with the freedom, comes a great sense of responsibility too... and i want to experience that too... :) Not that girls dont have
responsibilities... but what i am talking about at this point in time is financial independence... though every individual strives for that, it shows strongly in boys.
2. So many things are being talked about girl child abuse and gender descrimination. I want to be born as a boy and do my bit to stop this nonsense. Being a boy, i can take a much
stronger stand and be able to much more than what i can do rite now..!
And last; but certianly not the least, i want to go for a stroll and have a coffee at the road side tapri 2 am during PL's! :) Believe me, this is something i miss so badly! i am just fascinated
by this idea! i still remeber the college days when all the boys would study at someone's house and share their stories abt this odd hour coffee break... That was the only thing that made
me jealous of the boys :)
well.. thats all i could think of for now... may be some more next time... :)

Swami Vivekananda

When Swami Vivekananda went to USA, a lady asked him to marry her. When Swami asked the lady about what made her ask him such question. The lady replied that she was fascinated by his intellect. She wanted a child of such an intellect. So she asked Swami, whether he could marry her and give a child like him.
He said to that lady, that since she was attracted only by his intellect, there is no problem. "My dear lady, i understand Your desire. Marrying and bringing a child in to this world and understanding whether it is intelligent or not takes very long time. More over it is not guaranteed.
Instead, to fulfill Your desire immediately, i can suggest a guaranteed way. Take me as Your child. You are my mother. Now on Your desire of having a child of my intellect is fulfilled."

The lady was speechless.

A beautiful story i heard in the Satsang yday... :)

Once in a town, there lived a 'fakir' (a saint). He was very poor and stayed in a small kutir (a hut). On new moon's night while the fakir was sleeping in his kutir, a thief entered his house. Hearing the small noise the door made, the fakir realized that there was a thief in the house. The fakir suddenly felt very bad. He thought to himself, 'first time someone has come to my house.. first time a thief has come to my house and there is nothing i can give him.. there is no way i can help this thief.' There was only one old rug with holes in it which he had covered himself into. He suddenly got one idea. Quietly he kept the rug in the middle of the room and hid himself in the dark corner. He thought at least this much i can do for this thief. Now the thief, who was also watching all this, got confused. He saw there was nothing in the room that he could steal. And yet, the fakir had kept the rug in the middle as if offering it to him and standing in a corner. The thief thought if i take this rug and start to run away, probably the fakir will wake the neighbours up and take me to the king! And anyway this old, torn rug is of no use to me! So he decided to leave the place without taking anything from there and turned back to leave. As he reached the door, the fakir quickly came out of the corner and stood at the door stopping the thief. He said, 'As it is people dont come to my place. There is no single person who visits my place; neither the rich nor the poor. First time someone has come, how can let him go empty handed? Let me be of use at least to you.. You will have to take this rug!' The thief tried to argue but the fakir did not budge. He pushed the rug into the thief's hands. As the thief started to go back, the fakir again stopped him and said, 'arrey! you are taking something from me.. i am giving you something, you must say thanks to me!' Hiding his astonishment, the poor thief could just mumble a meak 'thank you' and left the place quickly.

After few days the kingsmen caught this thief and he was brought to the king. There were lots of things found with him, amongst which, one was the fakir's torn rug. The thief started pleading innocent but some of the members in the king's court recognised the rug and told the king so. Since the fakir is supposed to be the truthful one, The king said to the thief, if the fakir says you have not stolen this rug, then i will relieve you. And the fakir was called to the court. When the fakir came, the king asked , 'is this rug yours?' the fakir said, 'yes'. king asked 'has this thief stolen this from you?' the fakir said, 'no! i have given it to him willingly and in fact, he has said thanks to me for that'! Hearing this, the king relieved the thief. The fakir too left the palace and started waling back to his place.

Now relieved and surprised by this act of fakir, the thief went runnig behind him and said, 'now i am not going to leave you! today you have saved a thief'! hearing this, the fakir just smiled and said, 'jabse main fakir bana hoon, mujhe koi chor dikhata hi nahi'! (since the day i became a fakir, i dont see anyone as thief!)

:) :)
